India endured a terrible day in their cricketing history as the Rohit Sharma-led side were bowled out for 46 on the first day of the second Test in a three-Test series against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Five stars including Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were out for 0. This is the first time for India that four of the top seven batsmen have had to get a duck at home. India were at 34/6 at one point – 34 being the lowest score for the fall of the 6th wicket for India at home since 1969. The previous lowest score was 27 runs against New Zealand in Hyderabad.

This is also the first time in world cricket since 1888 that five of a team's top eight batters have been dismissed for a duck. The first time this happened was in 1888 when Australia collapsed in a Test match against England. India is the first Asian team to achieve this feat.

India collapsed on Thursday with an embarrassing score of 46 in just 31.2 overs, registering their lowest ever total in 293 home Test matches, canceled out by the New Zealand pace attack's brilliant exploitation of the overcast conditions. Those 46 all-outs, which also included five batters dismissed for ducks, marked the first time the team failed to cross the 50-run mark in a Test innings at home.

It was also the second time after the Mohali Test in 1999 that five Indian batters failed to open their account against the Kiwis in a Test at home. The previous Indian record for the lowest Test innings total at home was set almost 37 years ago against the Kiwis West Indies in November 1987 in Delhi.

However, India's all-time low came against Australia four years ago when they were bowled out for just 36 points in Adelaide.
