3 Giants listed as potential trade candidates

If their 2024 season continues to go this poorly (and maybe even if it doesn't), the New York Giants are much more likely to sell players at the NFL transfer deadline than to buy them.

ESPN has taken a first look at the November 5 trade deadline and identified three Giants as potential players that GM Joe Schoen could trade to acquire more players for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Giants currently have seven selections in the upcoming draft, and that number is expected to rise to eight when compensatory picks are officially awarded after the season. Schoen could be looking to stock up on assets as the Giants continue to try to build their roster, especially since the Giants may need draft capital to move up and select a quarterback.

Here are the players ESPN's Dan Graziano identified as possible candidates:

Edge Azeez Ojulari

We've been eyeing Ojulari as a trade candidate for months. He's the fifth wheel on the wagon behind Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns. Injuries have shortened his 2022 and 2023 seasons and reduced his value to the Giants and other teams in the league.

Still, there are probably teams that need pass rush help and would like him to play a bigger role than the Giants currently do. Ojulari is in the final year of his rookie contract and I can't imagine the Giants re-signing him for 2025.

For me, he is the most logical transfer candidate of all the players on the Giants' roster.

WR Darius Slayton

The Giants currently have four wide receivers for three spots, with Slayton taking playing time away from 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt.

It's actually hard to argue with this decision by Giants head coach Brian Daboll. Slayton has been the Giants' best wide receiver in four of his five seasons and he's a good, proven player. He's also a deep threat and a popular and convenient target for quarterback Daniel Jones. Right now, he's a better player than Hyatt.

Still, the Giants paid a higher price for Hyatt in the 2023 draft. They believe he can become a key playmaker for them. It makes sense to trade Slayton, who is also in the final year of his contract and will likely play elsewhere next season, especially if the Giants can't keep up and feel they need to trade Jones.

Slayton would probably bring the best return of all the Giants' transfer candidates.

RB Devin Singletary

That surprised me. “Motor” is a favorite of Schoen and Daboll from their time in Buffalo and he's still a good player.

His transfer is more difficult because his contract runs through next season and he has a base salary of $4.75 million, of which $3.5 million is guaranteed.

If the Giants still don't advance, it might be worth gaining additional draft capital and free spots for youngsters Tyrone Tracy Jr., Eric Gray and Dante Miller.
