3 things that could help the Bears beat the Rams

(3) Build on Williams' performance from last weekend.

The Bears' rookie quarterback improved from Week 1 to 2 and again from Week 2 to 3 and hopes to stay on the same path against the Rams.

As he gains more experience, Williams will undoubtedly make quicker decisions and get the ball into the hands of his playmakers quicker, reducing the number of sacks. He was excellent at distributing the ball last Sunday in Indianapolis, resulting in the Bears having three receivers with at least 70 yards in a game for the first time since 2018.

Williams' arsenal should be bolstered Sunday by the expected return of veteran receiver Keenan Allen, who missed the last two games with a heel injury. The 6-2, 211-pounder is an accurate route runner who has a wide, quarterback-friendly catch radius that makes him an inviting target.

“Having Keenan Allen back will be great for our offense,” Williams said. “It's just something else for the defense to worry about this week and obviously on game day. His special talent for being candid in a phone booth will be great for us.”

While Williams rushed for 363 yards and two touchdowns last Sunday against the Colts, he also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. Going forward, the Bears want their rookie quarterback to take better care of the ball without losing his aggressiveness.

“When it comes to turnovers, we know we’re always going to focus on the ball,” Waldron said. “We are talking about statistics that are directly related to winning and losing football games. We know that the sales margin is enormous. It’s the most important thing, apart from scoring points.”

“It's important for Caleb to know, 'Hey, when is there a chance to get deals? When is there a chance of keeping a pocket clean when you don't have the ball in your hand?' Then when he has an open rush lane at the right moment to break control and come out with great ball security, some of those big plays come to life on the field.”
