49ers News: Immediate reaction to 36-24 win over Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers pulled off a nice comeback win in Week 6, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 36-24 to improve to 3-3 on the season, including 1-2 in division play.

With the win, the 49ers are currently atop the NFC West and finally have a division win on their books, which was much needed after San Francisco lost close contests to both the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals.

It was a game where San Francisco took an early lead but was never really able to get the game-winning shot early, making it a competitive game as the second half progressed. Nevertheless, the 49ers finished strong and ended up at the top here.

Here's our immediate reaction to the 49ers' 36-24 win over the Seahawks.

attack

Offensively, this game had an interesting atmosphere as the 49ers were able to pull off four different drives in the first half, including a one-play, 76-yard touchdown pass from Brock Purdy to Deebo Samuel.

However, on the other three drives, the 49ers were inside Seattle's 25-yard line and were unable to score a touchdown on any of those possessions, re-emerging red zone problems.

What's even more interesting is that the 49ers had an odd distribution of the ball when they reached the red zone, as George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk didn't get any touches in the first half (six total), forcing San Francisco to kick 17 field goals at Seattle's 7 and 23 yard lines.

Still, they led 16-3 at halftime and had a great chance when they scored a touchdown to start the second half. They finally saw some success in the red zone when Brock Purdy hit George Kittle on a sweet dime for the 10-yard score. giving San Francisco a significant lead of 20 points.

But then the offense stalled with three consecutive punts, the last falling at the Seattle 40-yard line, allowing Geno Smith and the Seahawks to find their way back with a touchdown drive after Laviska Shenault missed a kick returned from 97 yards had a score.

Suddenly it was 23-17, and the 49ers needed an answer offensively to avoid a third straight second-half division collapse.

Well, they ultimately got the job done, turning a Smith interception into another George Kittle touchdown before Isaac Guerendo and Kyle Juszczyk put the finishing touches on the end for the two-point win.

It was a solid performance from San Francisco, as Brock Purdy threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns, while Jordan Mason managed 73 yards on just nine carries before suffering a shoulder injury.

defense

The defense was the unit that really shined on Thursday, as it featured a mix of standout stars and younger talent coming through due to injuries.

The 49ers were without Charvarius Ward, Jordan Elliott and Talanoa Hufanga in this game, which meant some wholesale changes that resulted in several rookies seeing a lot of action, and that worked in San Francisco's favor.

Malik Mustapha and Renardo Green both made plays and recorded crucial interceptions that killed the Seahawks' momentum, with the latter giving San Francisco a two-point lead in the fourth quarter.

In addition, the stars shone for the 49ers, as Nick Bosa had a whopping 14 pressures, acted as a one-man fighting team and made his impact clear even without a sack.

Fred Warner led the team with 11 tackles while also blocking another pass that he nearly intercepted in a strong performance from the captain.

It was a multi-pronged effort, as the 49ers completely neutralized the rushing attack, despite it being a clear focus for Seattle earlier in the week, and softened the impact through the air by taking away DK Metcalf, resulting in an inefficient performance from quarterback Geno Smith led.

Overall, the defense stepped up a lot when the team needed it, and that was the main reason for Thursday's win.
