49ers news: Isaac Yiadom was added to the injury report on Thursday

The San Francisco 49ers injury report is out and tight end George Kittle (ribs) and linebacker Fred Warner (ankle) did not practice for the second straight day.

The Niners are in a tough spot. They can't afford to overlook a division opponent on Sunday, but they'll turn things around quickly when they face the Seattle Seahawks the following Thursday.

So when your star players like Kittle and Warner suffer injuries, you have to be careful. It wouldn't be a surprise if both players held out on Sunday. During his press conference, defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen said it was a next-man-up mentality:

“You'll never fully replace Fred, let alone us, but the next guy has to practice and we have to operate. We had some injuries. There is adversity and then there is opportunity. This gives the next person a chance and steps forward.

Practice is where you really hone your skills. With Fred, without Fred, we have to communicate. And the boys really do it.”

After hearing that first sentence, I assumed that Warner was iffy and that the 49ers would prefer him to start next Thursday against a team that just threw the ball over 40 times against the Detroit Lions.

Here is Thursday's full injury report:

Did not participate:

George Kittle (ribs)
Fred Warner (ankle)
Chris Conley (diagonal)
Jacob Cowing (shoulder)
Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf)
Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)

Limited:

Jordan Elliott (knee)
Kevin Givens (triceps)
Talanoa Hufanga (Ankle)
Dee Winters (ankle)
Isaac Yiadom (thigh)

Kalia Davis (knee), Kyle Juszczyk (shoulder) and Trent Williams (rest) were full participants.

Yiadom, who started each of the four games before not playing a snap in the second half against New England, was not listed on the injury report Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if the rotation between Yiadom and Renardo Green holds up this week against a much stronger Arizona Cardinals offense.

As for linebacker, Flannigan-Fowles has received the bulk of the reps this year, along with Warner and De'Vondre Campbell. Against the Patriots, Tatum Bethune and Winters both played in the second half after Warner did not return.

Injuries could be a chance for Winters to prove he deserves more appearances in the future if Warner is unable to play. Arizona figures to have a lot of three-wide receiver sets, meaning there's only room for two linebackers.

There is also the option for Sorensen to roll with three-safety looks or an additional cornerback. Because of the depth, the 49ers have options in the secondary and don't need to use a linebacker. If they aren't comfortable, he can hang in there in pass protection.
