49ers player Purdy scores three touchdowns against Jennings against Rams

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – After scoring three points and scoring no goals on their first drives in each of their last two games, the San Francisco 49ers started Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams with a much better performance.

With running back Jordan Mason doing most of the work, the Niners quickly moved into Rams territory to set up a first-and-10 at the Los Angeles 13-yard line. Quarterback Brock Purdy faked a throw to running back Isaac Guerendo, rolled right, skimmed the field and found a completely free Jauan Jennings in the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. With both Deebo Samuel Sr. and George Kittle out with injuries, Jennings is one of Purdy's top targets.

Kicker Jake Moody scored the extra point to make it 7-0 with 11:12 minutes left in the opening quarter.

Jennings scored another touchdown less than 10 minutes later when Purdy evaded the pass rush, rolled to the right and found him in the back of the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown. The extra point put the 49ers up 14-0 with 1:47 left in the first quarter.

It is the second game of his career in which Jennings has caught multiple touchdowns, both times against the Rams. He also had two touchdowns in a Week 18 win at Los Angeles in 2022.

Jennings completed his first career touchdown hat trick midway through the third quarter when Purdy found him on third-and-5 from the Los Angeles 31-yard line. Under pressure, Purdy stepped into the pocket and found Jennings on the run for the 31-yard touchdown that gave the 49ers two touchdowns.

Jennings set career highs in yards and touchdowns in a game and tied his career high in receptions. It's also his first 100-yard game.
