49ers vs. Chiefs Second Quarter Thread: It's already wild

The San Francisco 49ers received the ball early in the game. That was perhaps the only normal thing that happened in the first quarter.

The 49ers offense made a three-pointer early in the game.

After picking up a few first downs, the Kansas City Chiefs attempted a fake punt on 4th-and-1, but the defense smelled it and tried to stop it. I'm sure Nick Sorensen and the coaching staff are comfortable with Kansas City trying to gain yards without Patrick Mahomes on the field.

Brock Purdy stared at George Kittle during the following play. Safety Justin Reid jumped into the throwing lane to force an interception. So the Niners wasted huge field position.

Mahomes scored on the following play through Noah Gray for a 26-yard gain and the Chiefs were inside the red zone. Nick Bosa and Leonard Floyd sacked Mahomes to force a 2nd & 15. Then Kalia Davis had the awareness to throw the ball in the air and catch it herself for a much-needed turnover.

Both teams exchanged punts before Anders Carlson opened the scoring with a 55-yard field goal on the 49ers' fourth drive of the game.

After one quarter, the offense had 28 yards on 10 plays, and Purdy was 1-for-4 for eight yards and an interception. They seemed confused, sluggish and unsure of what to do about Steve Spagnuolo.
