49ers WR Deebo Samuel has pneumonia and is out indefinitely

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday afternoon that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has torn his ACL: “I know he tore his ACL too. I haven't looked at everything yet. I've just finished with the players. I was told ACL and there was also MCL.”

Shanahan said he called Aiyuk after the game: “He was injured. He was devastated. Just as you would expect, he was definitely a little depressed last night. I let him know how we all feel about him.”

Wide receiver Chris Conley has been dealing with an ankle injury on a daily basis.

Tight end George Kittle is dealing with a foot sprain on a daily basis.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is suffering from pneumonia. Samuel is currently still in the hospital and the 49ers will see how he recovers over the next few days, according to Shanahan:

“He went in last night. It started in the middle of the night, Saturday night or early Sunday morning. When we found out after the game that he had fluid in his lungs, we sent him there.”

Shanahan said Samuel had trouble breathing and that's why he didn't play much in the game. Deebo's attempt to act out the symptoms of pneumonia is a testament to his determination.

Shanahan said he wasn't sure if the 49ers would bring Deebo back this week. He expects Ricky Pearsall to have a much heavier workload in the future due to the injuries at receiver. The same goes for rookie Jacob Cowing.

On Christian McCaffrey: “Christian is still making progress in his rehab. There have been no setbacks, so it’s only good news so far.”

Shanahan confirmed the report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Monday morning, saying that CMC has a good chance of returning after the 49ers' bye week. He said he would be “surprised” if McCaffrey played against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, but hopes his rehab goes well over the off week.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw is still a bit on the defensive, according to Shanahan: “Greenlaw is still weeks away. “I'm still feeling good, but it's not happening anytime soon.” Greenlaw has yet to practice this season as he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon suffered during the Super Bowl.

Kicker Jake Moody's status remains unchanged. Shanahan said he wouldn't be back until after the bye week at the earliest. Moody is still recovering from a high ankle sprain he suffered earlier this month.
