Fantasy football managers will collectively face one of the toughest questions in sports over the next few months. What should I do with my kicker if he is on a bye?

That’s what Harrison Butker’s owners will have to deal with in Week 6. Can you really risk eliminating a top-10 kicker who plays with Patrick Mahomes on offense? Probably not, but at the same time lining up two kickers is unattractive.

Many other fantasy owners will be happy to part with their kickers and replace them with bye-week streamers, knowing that they can get them back in a few days if they wish. Others will continue to browse through the kickers until they find one they like who can consistently reach double figures or average a few field goal attempts per game.

NFL POWER RANKINGS WEEK 6: Commanders among the up-and-coming teams, led by the rookie quarterback

Who could be one of the underrated and overrated kicker options for Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season? Here's a breakdown of the best kickers to trust in fantasy football, including some potential high-volume streamers.

Fantasy football starts them: Week 6 Kickers

Matthew Wright, San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers lost Jake Moody to the Arizona Cardinals due to an ankle sprain. He will miss San Francisco's Thursday Night Football matchup against the Seattle Seahawks and will be replaced by Wright, who immediately becomes a viable fantasy option.

Wright has appeared in 24 NFL games in his career, completing 40 of 47 kicks for a field goal percentage of 85.1. He is a respectable 6 of 9 on shots from 50+ yards and has 59 yards rushing. The 49ers rank second in the NFL in field goal attempts per game (3), so Wright is trustworthy against a Seattle defense that has been porous over the last two weeks, allowing 404.5 yards per game.

Cameron Dicker, Los Angeles Chargers

If you're looking for a potential high-end kicker that's more available now than it should be, look no further than Dicker the Kicker. His possessions dropped significantly during the Chargers' bye week, as is typically the case with high-end but non-elite kickers, allowing him to be used as a backup player in the lineup for the remainder of the season.

The Chargers play the Broncos in kicker-friendly Denver in Week 6, so Dicker — who has 9 of 13 kicks from more than 50 yards in his career — should get a distance boost. That should be enough to assuage any concerns that Los Angeles might have fewer scoring opportunities against a stout Denver defense.

JETS COACHING CANDIDATES: Bill Belichick or first hire after Robert Saleh was fired?

Nick Folk, Tennessee Titans

Folk is under the radar as a fantasy option, but he's also coming off a bye week and has a favorable matchup. The Titans play the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are allowing the third-most points per game in the NFL this season (28.6), so Folk should get more chances on field goals and extra points in this contest.

The best thing about folk? Tennessee has an offense good enough to move the ball, but they don't finish drives often (they rank 17th in the NFL with a red zone touchdown percentage of 54.55). This could make the Titans-Jaguars game similar to the Titans vs. Miami Dolphins game in Week 4, in which Folk made all five of his field goal attempts. He may not take three shots from 50+ yards in the same game again, but the volume will be there for the 39-year-old veteran.

Fantasy football sit 'em: Week 6 Kickers

Blake Grupe, New Orleans Saints

Grupe was a star in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, making 4 of 4 field goals and making two kicks from over 50 yards. Since then, he has had four field goal attempts in four weeks and has been unable to make up for it with additional points (9 of 11 in that span).

With Derek Carr dealing with an oblique injury that will sideline him for some time, the Saints offense is even more volatile in Week 6 than it has been in recent weeks. That makes it hard to trust Grupe, even against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that allows 2.8 field goal attempts per game (third most in the NFL).

Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles

Elliott ranked sixth in kicker fantasy points during the 2023 NFL season, but his performance in 2024 was far from that. He's made just five field goal attempts in four games and hasn't made a single one since Week 2.

Philadelphia's offense should be better after the bye week as long as AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are healthy, but it's hard to recommend trusting Elliott until we see the Eagles become the explosive offense they will be at the start of the 2023 season should.

NFL COACHING HOT SEAT: Who will be notified after the Jets fire Robert Saleh?

Austin Seibert, Washington Commander

Seibert has been perfect since joining the Commanders before Week 2, hitting all 12 of his field goal attempts and 13 extra points, but his matchup with the Baltimore Ravens looks difficult. The Commanders and Ravens are the two highest-scoring teams in the NFL, so this could be an offensive shootout with each coach being aggressive and trying to score touchdowns early and often.

Add to that the fact that Seibert has yet to attempt a shot from over 50 yards, and his ceiling is low in Week 6. His extra point volume should be enough to give most lineups a boost, but he doesn't expect to be a top 12 kicker this week either.
