FanDuel plays and strategy for Tuesday, October 29th

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

After a week made up of two jam-packed days of hockey (16 games last Tuesday and 14 last Saturday), the action is far more expansive in the final evenings of October. After eight games on the schedule on Monday, we have another seven ahead of us this evening. Here are my DFS recommendations.

SLATE PREVIEW

San Jose is the only team playing back-to-back second-half games, so all the other teams are rested. However, the Islanders and Kings are scheduled to play again on Wednesday, so that could affect those teams' lineup decisions tonight. It's also worth noting that six of Tuesday's games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET or earlier, so those on the East Coast should also have a good idea of how their lineup performed before bed.

GOALKEEPER

Darcy KuemperLAK at SJS ($8,100): Kuemper has a poor 3.20 GAA and a .897 save percentage in four appearances, but those numbers are weighed down by his disastrous start on October 14, in which he gave up eight goals on 41 shots. Otherwise, he allowed two or fewer goals in each of his three further appearances this season. Even though the Sharks earned a 5-4 overtime win over Utah on Monday, San Jose is still just 1-7-2 and ranks 30th offensively at 2.30 goals per game, making this a very is a favorable game for Kuemper.

Ilya SorokinNYI vs. ANA ($7,900): Sorokin is one of the better goaltenders in the league and is off to a strong start with a 2-1-1 record, a 1.74 GAA and a .936 save percentage in four appearances during the 2024-25 season. He has a good chance of extending that run against Anaheim, which ranks 31st offensively with 2.25 goals per game.

Marc-André FleuryMIN at PIT ($7,400): This should be a special night for Fleury as he prepares for what will likely be his final start in Pittsburgh. At age 39, Fleury's best days are behind him, but he's still capable of good starts, as shown in Thursday's 4-2 win over Tampa Bay, in which he stopped 24 of 26 shots. Like Fleury, Pittsburgh is still capable of putting up a good game, but the Sidney Crosby-led Penguins' greatest moments are probably all in the past. Pittsburgh is 3-6-1 after losing its last five games, so this appears to be a favorable matchup for the 5-1-2 Wild.

VALUE GAMES

Kirby roofMON vs SEA ($4,900): Dach had a slow start to the season with just one point (one assist) in his first six appearances, but his active three-game point streak, in which he recorded a goal and three assists, has progressed well. Dach never scored more than 38 points in a single season, but injuries were a big reason for that. If he can stay healthy this season, it wouldn't be out of the question for Dach to significantly exceed his offensive career highs.

Will CuylleNYR at WAS ($4,800): Cuylle established himself as a physical forward with the Rangers last year who contributed a bit offensively. Primarily on the third line, the 22-year-old still plays with that physical strength, but he's doing a lot more with the puck, scoring two goals and seven points in eight appearances during the 2024-25 season. Cuylle probably won't be able to keep up this pace, especially because he doesn't have a power play role, but he's worth picking while he's hot.

Kaapo KakkoNYR at WAS ($4,200): It would be understandable if Kakko looked with envy at Alexis Lafreniere's recently signed seven-year, $52.15 million contract extension. By 2022/23, the two Rangers forwards found themselves in a similar position to promising young forwards who had failed to live up to expectations. But while Kakko had a difficult 2023-24 season, Lafreniere took a big step forward that led to his big payday. Kakko will have a hard time following in Lafreniere's footsteps since Kakko primarily plays on the third line, but he is holding his own so far with one goal and six points in eight appearances.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Wild about penguins

Marco Rossi (C – $5,900), Kirill Kaprizov (W – $9,200), Mats Zuccarello (W – $7,300)

Pittsburgh's goaltending was one of the main reasons for the Penguins' early struggles – defensively, the team ranks 30th with 4.20 goals allowed per game. Penguins fans may long for the days of Fleury in the net while watching tonight's game, especially if Kaprizov performs like he has lately. The 27-year-old winger has four goals and 15 points in eight appearances this season and enters tonight's game on a five-game multi-point streak.

His linemates weren't nearly as productive, but they held their own. Zuccarello and Rossi have eight and seven points, respectively, in eight games in the 2024-25 season.

Bruins vs. Flyers

Elias Lindholm (C – $6,200), David Pastrnak (W – $9,000), Pavel Zacha (W – $5,000)

This is a risk as this trio has not yet lived up to expectations. Pastrnak has done his part with six goals and eight points in nine appearances, but Lindholm and Zacha have just five and three points, respectively. Still, the talent is there and this game is a great opportunity for them to develop.

Defensively, the Flyers are at the bottom of the league with 4.44 goals allowed per game. Pastrnak also shined against Philadelphia. He collected 26 goals and 43 points in 31 regular season games against the Flyers – more goals than he scored against any other franchise.

DEFENDER

Mike MathesonMON vs SEA ($6,600): Matheson posted a career-high 62 points in 82 appearances in 2023-24 and is on pace to achieve a similar level of performance this year with eight assists in nine appearances. Matheson has been steady, picking up at least a point in six of his last seven games.

Brandt ClarkeLAK at SJS ($6,200): Drew Doughty started the campaign on long-term injured reserve due to an ankle injury, which led to Brandt Clarke being given a role on the top power play unit. The 21-year-old Clarke has made the most of this opportunity, scoring one goal and seven points in nine games this year, including four points on the power play.

Philip BrobergSTL at OTT ($5,100): After rarely getting opportunities with Edmonton in recent years, Broberg is now a top-four prospect for the Blues after signing an offer sheet over the summer. Although Broberg's cap hit of $4,580,917 is quite a lot given his relatively short NHL resume, he has been more than worth St. Louis' investment so far, as he has scored two goals and recorded seven points in nine games.
