Warriors agree to one-year deal with former Knicks lottery winner

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to terms with wing Kevin Knox on a one-year deal, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic. Knox has played in each of the last six NBA seasons and hopes to use training camp and the preseason to convince a team to add him to their roster. Knox was an unexpected bright spot on the Warriors' summer league team, averaging 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds on .460/.333/.938 shooting in 23.4 minutes per game.

Knox was once considered one of the best young wing players in the world. A five-star recruit out of Kentucky, Knox led a Wildcats team full of future NBA players in scoring and was selected ninth overall by the New York Knicks in the 2018 NBA Draft. Knox averaged 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a teenage rookie but struggled with efficiency.

Over time, Knox's role in New York steadily declined. No longer standing out in the player rankings, Knox was part of a transfer package to the Atlanta Hawks during the 2021–22 season. Knox finished the season with Atlanta and became a free agent for the first time. He signed with the Detroit Pistons before being traded again, this time as part of the four-team deal that brought Gary Payton II back to Golden State, and ended up with the Trail Blazers.

When he was a free agent again last season, he re-signed with the Pistons. He received the most playing time since his rookie year, averaging 7.2 points on very efficient shooting (59.8% from the two, 33.3% from the three and 90.9% from the free throw line) in 18.1 minutes per game. But again, after just 31 games in Detroit, Knox was traded again. He landed with the Utah Jazz, who immediately released him. Unable to find another NBA home, he finished the year in the G-League.
