Kiel wins historic point: FC Bayern celebrates next goal festival

FC Bayern keeps the goal machine running: just a few days after the record victory in the Champions League, the record champions also won clearly in the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, newly promoted Holstein Kiel secured a historic point very late.

SV Werder Bremen – FC Bayern Munich 0:5 (0:2)

Fun, variable, hungry for goals – and with Michael Olise in top form, at least a size too big for Werder Bremen: FC Bayern has once again proven its class and remains untouchable in the Bundesliga. Coach Vincent Kompany's team celebrated their sixth win in six competitive matches this season with a 5-0 (2-0) win against the Hanseatics and impressed in almost every respect. The good mood of the German record champions during their traditional Oktoberfest visit on Sunday is thus assured.

Olise in particular delivered spectacular performances on the Weser. With two goals (23rd, 60th) and two impressive assists for Jamal Musiala (32nd) and Harry Kane (57th), he became the player of the match. Serge Gnabry (65th) put the finishing touches. FCB, who had to do without the injured Manuel Neuer at short notice, extended their super series on the Weser to 15 consecutive victories. Bremen, coached by Ole Werner, who had started the season well, suffered a severe setback.

Kane and Co. arrived in the north with enormous confidence after their 9:2 Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb and continued their strong performance seamlessly. The last time the two clubs met in January, Bremen won 1:0 in the Allianz Arena – this time Bayern dominated in every respect.

As expected, Bayern took control early on and had the first dangerous shot with Konrad Laimer's long-range shot that hit the top of the crossbar (8th minute). After that, the guests, who attacked in a variety of ways, stayed close, and Werder were increasingly unable to break free of the pressure – Olise's first goal was the logical consequence. After Mitchell Weiser lost the ball, Kane reacted quickly and served the 22-year-old, who slotted it in effortlessly. Less than ten minutes later, Olise took on the Werder defense again and served Musiala.

Werder were well served by being two goals behind at half-time. Werner then brought on Keke Topp and Derrick Köhn, who provided some momentum. Bayern let the home team come close and then rose mercilessly.

1. FC Heidenheim – SC Freiburg 0:3 (0:0)

SC Freiburg has finally perfected the strong start to the season under its new coach Julian Schuster and has established itself as first in the upper region of the table. With the 3-0 (0-0) win at 1. FC Heidenheim, the Breisgau team achieved its third victory in four games of the season – a promising start to the first season after the departure of coaching legend Christian Streich.

Ritsu Doan (54th) and Vincenzo Grifo (59th, 65th) scored the goals for the SCF within just eleven minutes and after a significant improvement in performance in the second half. The European Cup newcomer from Heidenheim, meanwhile, could only keep up before the break and, after two wins at the start, had to accept their second defeat in a row.

In a quiet opening phase, Freiburg was the more active team, Heidenheim left the ball to the guests and preferred to concentrate on defending. The SCF offense hardly had any dangerous shots on goal, but instead Mathias Honsak (19th) had the first good chance of the game for Heidenheim. However, his shot from the edge of the penalty area went just over the goal.

Freiburg continued to try to find gaps in the hosts' back line. However, the SC offensive around ex-Heidenheim player Eren Dinkci, who was in the Freiburg starting eleven for the first time, was unable to break through Heidenheim's stable defensive block. But because his long balls were mostly sent out of the Freiburg penalty area, the 0-0 score at half-time was the logical result.

In the second half, it took just four minutes for the first big chance. Dinkci (49th) pushed the ball past the goal while standing free, and Doan did much better a little later: from the edge of the penalty area, the Japanese player curled the ball beautifully straight onto the left inside post, from where the ball bounced into the goal.

The goal played right into Freiburg's hands. Heidenheim had to loosen up its defensive block a little in order to be able to take more risks. The SC knew how to use the space that was created, especially in the person of Grifo.

Union Berlin – TSG Hoffenheim 2:1 (2:0)

TSG Hoffenheim and coach Pellegrino Matarazzo have finally slipped into crisis. The Kraichgau team, who had been too weak for a long time, suffered a bitter 1:2 (0:2) defeat at Union Berlin. After the third defeat in the series, the situation for the club and coach is already becoming uncomfortable after the fourth matchday.

Union's Tom Rothe (4th) and Wooyeong Jeong (6th) made Hoffenheim's slump worse with their goals, while Marius Bülter (67th) scored for TSG. Matarazzo will now be under even closer scrutiny. Recently, there was media speculation that Hoffenheim was interested in national coach assistant Sandro Wagner. Union, meanwhile, is still unbeaten and can be very satisfied with eight points at the start of the season.

After the 1:4 defeat against champions Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim had to worry about striker Andrej Kramaric, but an ankle injury did not prevent the Croatians from playing – nevertheless, only Union was on the attack at the Alte Försterei at the beginning. After a wild ping-pong game in the penalty area following a corner, Rothe smashed the ball into the net to take the lead. Just two minutes later, the guests suffered another blow.

And Rothe is in the spotlight again. Benedict Hollerbach passed the ball to him on a counterattack, the 19-year-old found Jeong, who left a defender behind and carefully shot – Hoffenheim was shocked. TSG had no offensive action for a long time, while Jeong (22') almost scored his second goal. Tim Drexler blocked his shot in dire need. It was also the defender who tested Union goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow (43') for the first time with a long-range shot before the break.

The shot tally of 10:2 in Union's favour at half-time spoke volumes, the Berliners could have, if not should have, led by even more. Matarazzo then had to make a change, and the coach made two substitutions at half-time and reorganised his defence – Umut Tohumcu and Valentin Gendrey came on for Robin Hranac and Drexler. However, the guests were not much more compelling at first, so the coach brought in new Sturm signing Haris Tabakovic. The attacker was immediately in the spotlight, but his header (58th minute) landed in Rönnow's arms.

Because Hoffenheim was unable to capitalize on their possession for a long time, it was only logical that a solo effort led to the goal. Former Union player Bülter danced around Janik Haberer on the edge of the penalty area and shot powerfully into the bottom left corner. Shortly before the end, Union's Andras Schäfer (85th) quickly outwitted TSG keeper Oliver Baumann with a cross, but the goalkeeper deflected the ball over the goal.

VfL Bochum – Holstein Kiel 2:2 (2:1)

On coach Marcel Rapp's anniversary, Holstein Kiel finally arrived in the Bundesliga. In the coach's 100th competitive game on the sidelines, the newcomer picked up the first historic point in the top flight with a 2:2 (1:2) draw in the basement duel at VfL Bochum, but it was not enough for the first win despite an earlier lead.

Bochum is also still without a win after four games, but this is not a new experience: In the past two years, it took until the ninth and tenth matchdays before the first win of the season was achieved – and in the end, the Westphalians still managed to stay in the league.

Benedikt Pichler (15th) gave Kiel the lead for the first time in the Bundesliga. But Matus Bero (22nd) and Lukas Daschner (35th) turned the game around before the break. However, substitute Shuto Machino (89th) equalized for the promoted team.

Zeidler had to do without the new Japanese signing Koji Miyoshi (thigh problems), and he also offered Philipp Hofmann for Moritz Broschinski, a different striker than in the 1:2 defeat in Freiburg. Rapp made four changes compared to the 1:6 defeat against Bayern Munich. The coach had spread a lot of optimism beforehand. “If you look at the opponents we are facing, the aim should be to get three points,” said Rapp.

Both teams started the game extremely nervously and hectically, in keeping with their league standings. Inaccuracies, passing errors, fouls – there were hardly any combinations over more than three or four stations in the early stages. The first successful move led straight to a goal: after a clever pass from Andu Kelati, Pichler outplayed VfL goalkeeper Patrick Drewes and scored the Storks' surprising 1-0.

Zeidler replaced the weak central defender Erhan Masovic with captain Anthony Losilla, and suddenly Bochum was playing football too: After strong preparatory work by Myron Boadu, Bero curled the ball into the far corner. VfL increased the pressure, tied Kiel up in their own half and were rewarded with a 2:1. Hofmann passed in the penalty area, Daschner scored beautifully with the outside of his foot. Kelati missed the big chance to equalize when he shot completely unmarked over the Bochum goal (45.+2).

After the break, Kiel pushed for an equalizer, but Armin Gigovic narrowly missed the target from a great position (61'). Bochum limited themselves to managing their narrow lead for a long time, and only rediscovered their offensive after several substitutions. But then they fell asleep at 2:2.
