New River CTC and Marshall enter into partnership agreement

BEAVER, WV (WVNS) – New River Community and Technical College has partnered with Marshall University to provide more opportunities for students.

Students and prospective students at New River Community and Technical College now have the opportunity to advance their education even further.

The new bachelor's degree program will not only help transfer credits to Marshall University, but will also reduce the stress that comes with not receiving those credits.

Marshall President Brad Smith said he is excited about the collaboration and hopes to improve schools and West Virginia as a whole.

“We knew there were still frictions that were preventing students from continuing their education. Thanks to President Copenhaver, we took the opportunity and said, 'Let's eliminate that friction.' And now here we are,” Smith said.

New River CTC President Dr. Bonny Copenhaver said this collaboration has been a long time in the making.

Students in select programs can begin their four-year program at Marshall immediately.

“This is a great success for our students here. Both for those we currently have, for those who have graduated in this way in the past and for those who will study in the future,” said Dr. Copenhaver.

Dr. Copenhaver says that in the future, students should be able to transfer their credits seamlessly to advance their education and their future.
