MONTREAL (AP) — A quick look at the opening session of the Presidents Cup fourballs at Royal Montreal on Thursday (all times EDT):

THE RESULT: USA 5, International 0.

THE SWEEP: It was the first time since 2000 that the Americans won the opening session. The last time there was a shutout was at Royal Montreal in 2007, when the Americans lost 5-0 in foursomes on Saturday.

TRENDING: The Americans lead in the Presidents Cup after 38 of the last 42 meetings. They have led eight of the last nine times after opening day.

MATCH OF THE DAY: Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala led just eight of the 18 holes against Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee, and neither team led by more than one hole in the Americans' 1-up victory.

SHOT OF THE DAY: Theegala hit his attempt from 3 feet away to secure a 1-1 win.

WOE, CANADA: Taylor Pendrith and Corey Conners of Canada, each losing 4-0 in their Presidents Cup debut in 2022, lost both games in the opening session.

NOTABLE: Adam Scott played with his 17th partner in the Presidents Cup. He will have his 18th partner on Friday.
