Sayuri, the musical artist who has contributed to several notable anime series such as: My Hero Academia And Deleted (Boku dake ga Inai Machi), died at the age of 28.

Sayuri's death was announced via her official social media account involving only close friends and family. “We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the kindness shown to Sayuri during her lifetime and join everyone in praying that her soul rests in peace,” the message said. “We ask media representatives to be considerate of the deep sadness of their families and relatives and to refrain from conducting interviews with those involved.”

Sayuri's exact cause of death is unknown; However, in July 2024, she announced an indefinite hiatus due to functional dysphonia – a condition that causes the vocal cords to sound strained due to increased tension in the larynx muscles. Her husband stated that she “had a passion for music until the end, when she was battling chronic illness.”

Sayuri became active as an indie music artist in 2010 and moved from her hometown of Fukuoka to Tokyo in 2013 to pursue her musical career. She made her big debut in 2015 at the age of 18 and particularly caught the attention of anime fans that same year when her single “Mikazuki” was used as the ED theme Rampo Kitan: Laplace game. Since then, she has performed songs for anime, among other things Deleted (“Sore wa Chiisana Hikari no Youna”), Scum's wish (“Parallel”), My Hero Academia Season 4 (“Koukai no Uta”), Eden's zero “Sekai no Himitsu”) and Lycoris recoil (“Hana no Tou”).

Although Sayuri never revealed her real name, she was best known for her powerful, naturally trembling voice and her often dark lyrics that evoked deep emotions in her listeners.

Rest in peace, Sayuri.
