The Giants had to settle for a five field goal loss to the Cowboys

Jones was asked how frustrating it is for a quarterback to not be able to get the offense into the end zone.

“Very frustrating,” he said. “Very frustrating. We are expected to score touchdowns and put points on the board. And in a game where I felt like we could do a lot and move the ball well and execute a lot of things well, we didn't do that. “I ran the red zone stuff and didn't input it, so that's frustrating.

The Giants have yet to score a touchdown in two home games this season, making two field goals in the opener against Minnesota and five on Thursday night.

Another source of frustration was the running game, which caused the entire game to sputter. The Giants ran the ball 24 times and gained only 26 yards. Devin Singletary gained 24 of those yards on 14 attempts. Dallas came into the game ranked last in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (185.7) and per carry (5.4).

“I thought the big difference was we controlled the game in the passing game, but we didn't do enough in the running game,” Daboll said. “Give them credit. We knew they would fix some of it, but we have to do a better job.”

Jones played his third straight strong game, completing 29 of 40 passes for 281 yards. Without an interception, it would have been the third straight game, but a long throw on his final pass was intercepted by cornerback Amani Oruwariye with five seconds left.

“Yeah, three games in a row, I’m proud of the young man,” Daboll said. “He made good decisions. He threw the ball where he needed to throw the ball. The last play against (wide receiver Jalin) Hyatt, that means we're going to throw it down and see if we can or can get a DPI (defensive pass interference).'' Go up there and try to make a play. He has a good view of the field and we had a few opportunities to continue the journey. I am proud of his performance and his good preparation today.

The Giants' only lead was 3-0. Dallas responded quickly with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Prescott's 15-yard touchdown pass to Rico Dowdle late in the first quarter.

Joseph's 41-yarder put the Giants up 7-6, but the Cowboys again had a productive response as Lamb broke free of Deonte Banks, intercepted Prescott's pass at the Giants' 35-yard line and sprinted to the end zone.

Joseph's third field goal cut the Giants' deficit to 14-9 at halftime.

Each team kicked a field goal in the third quarter and again in the fourth.

Despite the disappointment in both the game and the Giants' record, Daboll saw a glimmer of hope.

“Once again the result is disgusting,” he said. “But I thought there was an improvement. I think the results have continued to improve. Last week we got the result we wanted (a win in Cleveland), this week we didn't get it. This is hurtful. It hurts, it's painful, you work your butt off.

“We had a good short week. But we played the game the way we needed to. We just missed a few things. I would say we need to do a better job in the run game, and that starts with.” But I tried different things, so I think the passing game was the way to go, but not being able to stay on that a little bit right way, and we did a good job on some of those runs, and we went inside with the quarterback run. “It was our night in the running game.”
