Vince McMahon calls the Netflix docuseries “Mr. McMahon” as “fraudulent”

Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon says he's seen upcoming Netflix documentaries about his life and isn't happy with them.

In a statement posted to his social media accounts on Monday, the wrestling promoter said that he recently screened an “early partial cut” and that, based on what he has seen so far, “this documentary is too comes shortly and takes the predictable path, the 'Mr. McMahon's character with my real self, Vince. The title and promo alone make that clear.”

The Netflix docuseries, premiering Wednesday, September 25, follows McMahon's career as he took over his father's regional wrestling promotion and turned it into a global entertainment company. But it also highlights the dark side of the business, from the steroid abuse scandal that rocked the company in the 1990s to the sexual misconduct allegations that led to his resignation earlier this year.

“Much has been misrepresented or omitted entirely to intentionally confuse viewers. “Producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage, outdated soundbites, etc. to distort viewers' perceptions and support a misleading narrative,” McMahon wrote on Monday. “To reinforce their misleading narrative, the producers are using a lawsuit based on an affair I ended as evidence that I was, in fact, ‘Mr. McMahon.'”

However, McMahon added in his statement: “I have no regrets about participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had the opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I have built that was equal parts excitement, drama, fun and a lot of controversy and life lessons.

“I hope the viewer stays open and remembers that there are two sides to every story,” he added.
