Organizations in southern Mississippi are collecting supplies for areas affected by Hurricane Helene

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) – After Hurricane Helene raged across Florida's Gulf Coast, Georgia and the Carolinas, organizations in South Mississippi are coming together to provide assistance.

Sheriff Matt Haley announced that the Harrison County Sheriff's Office will be sending a team to Florida to assist areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

The sheriff's office will open a supply drop-off location for anyone who would like to donate.

Those wishing to drop off supplies can visit the Harrison County Work Center at 10046 Lorraine Road. The Work Center will be open Saturday, September 28th and Sunday, September 29th from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m

The work center accepts various donations:

  • Cleaning Supplies: Detergents, bleach, disinfectants, rubber gloves, sponges, rags, towels, buckets, trash bags, tarps, mops, brooms, and scrub brushes.
  • Food: water, non-perishable foods, etc.
  • Other accessories: shovels, rakes and box cutters.

The Sheriff's Office will deliver all items in the next few days once the team leaves for Florida.

The city of D'Iberville has also joined the relief efforts for those affected in Florida.

Their efforts will focus on supporting those most affected by Hurricane Helene and returning the favors extended to them following Hurricane Katrina.

D'Iberville officials will be collecting donations including:

  • Water and dry food for dogs/cats.
  • Baby diapers, baby wipes, bleach/bleach wipes.
  • Cleaning bucket, latex/leather gloves.
  • Mops, brooms, shovels and rakes.

Drop-off will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at D'Iberville Fire Station #1, 11288 Lamey Bridge Road

WLOX News and Gray Media are also partnering with the Salvation Army to provide relief from Hurricane Helene.
