Florida A&M's Marching 100 will not compete in upcoming game against Troy

TROY, Alabama (WTVY) – While there are plenty of fun non-league activities and events planned for the Troy Trojans' upcoming clash with the Florida A&M Rattlers next Saturday, a key part of the experience that normally takes place when facing the visiting HBCU will not be part of the festivities at The Vet.

Troy assistant athletic director Adam Prendergast confirmed that the famed “Marching 100” Rattlers band will not perform at the Sept. 21 contest. No specific reason was given as to why the Florida A&M band would not travel with the team that weekend.

Even though Trojans fans won't have a chance to attend the Marching 100 this Saturday, that doesn't mean there isn't plenty more to look forward to besides the clash on the football field as Troy seeks its first win of the 2024 season.

News4's Beyla Walker spoke with Troy Athletic Director Brent Jones about everything Trojan fans will see and experience at Saturday's game.

The Trojans will welcome back the 1984 NCAA Division II National Championship-winning football team for a reunion and celebration. As part of the celebration, Troy will wear special retro helmets similar to those worn by the Trojans during the 12-1 1984 season, and fans will receive a free poster commemorating the 40th anniversary of the team's crowning moment. The first 2,000 Troy students will also receive a free retro Troy State T-shirt honoring the team.

Additionally, Saturday will be Troy's annual High School Band Day, giving high school band students the opportunity to experience game day with Troy's “Sound of the South.” Those who register for the festivities will have the chance to practice with the Trojans band on the football practice field before the game, including instruction from the Sound of the South staff, and they will also be on the field with the Sound of the South during halftime for a rousing halftime performance. High school bands can register for the event by visiting TroyTrojans.com/BandDay, and families and friends of participants can purchase a special ticket package at TroyTrojans.com/Promo using the code BANDDAY through Friday, Sept. 20.

Parent Family Weekend ticket offers are also available to parents and families of Troy students this weekend by visiting TroyTrojans.com/Promo and entering the code FAMILY for discounted tickets, reserved areas and an included Troy hat. Vouchers can be picked up at Gate 1 of the stadium starting at 1:30 p.m. on game day and dropped off at the Barnes & Noble Stadium Store at Gate 8.

The Horn Beverage Tailgate Concert Series will also take place on Saturday at the Tailgate Terrace, with a free concert by Johnny Barron and The Waterfall Band from 3-5 p.m.

Kickoff for Troy vs. Florida A&M is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
