Yellow Lake Fire Burns in Heber-Kamas Ranger District; Campers were asked to leave

A recent forest fire is burning in the US Forest Service's Heber-Kamas Ranger District.

According to the Utah Fire Department, the Yellow Lake Fire, located south of Mill Hollow Reservoir in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, was discovered on Saturday, September 28th.

As of Sunday morning, Utah Forest Service officials reported the fire was about 130 acres in size and was burning timber, dead trees and downed trees.

Wind speeds are estimated at 50-60 mph Sunday afternoon.

Five engines, two helicopters and two firefighters were on scene Sunday morning working to bring the fire under control.

An area closure was imposed for public safety reasons. Areas closed include the west side of Mill Hollow, the north side of Highway 35, the east side of Wolf Creek Campground and the south side of Duchesne Ridge. All campers within the closed area have been asked to leave the site.

The Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of search and rescue teams, is notifying people in the restricted area of ​​the need to evacuate.

Authorities said smoke could be seen in surrounding areas and urged residents not to report smoke sightings.
