The Cleveland Guardians are officially the AL Central Champions

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians clinched a postseason berth with a win over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Two days later, the team captured the division title.

After securing their playoff spot, the Guardians entered a road series against the St. Louis Cardinals, winning their opening game on Friday night. That win, along with a loss to the Kansas City Royals, reduced the team's magic number to just one point and secured the American League Central Division title.

Going into Saturday's game against the Cardinals, the Guardians had to win or suffer another Royals loss. Kansas City did the hard work, losing 9-0 to the Giants just before the Guardians' game began.

The Guardians have now won their 12th division title since the AL Central was founded 30 years ago, and their fifth division championship since 2016.

While the Guardians have secured their playoff spot and division title, they still have more regular season to go, including one more game against the Cardinals before returning home for a series against the Cincinnati Reds and another against the Houston Astros to begin the October baseball season.
