The bowlers come out on top as India complete the series win against Bangladesh

Ravichandran Ashwin drew first blood, Ravindra Jadeja ripped out the heart while Jasprit Bumrah put the final nail in Bangladesh's coffin as India beat the visitors by seven wickets in the second Test to secure a record-breaking 18th series win at home in Kanpur on Tuesday . It was one of the most exciting performances from the Indian team, despite losing more than 200 overs of the game and being completely out for two days. The overall victory cemented India's top position in the ICC World Test Championship Table (WTC) with 74.24 percentage points.

Bangladesh needed a determined fightback on the final day to salvage a draw, but they slumped to 146 after resuming the day at 26-2. Bumrah (3/17 in 10 overs), Ravichandran Ashwin (3/50 in 15 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/34 in 10 overs) shared the bulk of the spoils.

India scored the required 95 runs in 17.2 overs with Player of the Match Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) scoring his second fifty of the game.

For Bangladesh, opener Shadman Islam (50) and former captain Mushfiqur Rahim (37) were the only batsmen to offer some resistance, while others succumbed to the relentless pressure of the home bowlers after a top-class batting performance to make it a match.

The biggest disappointment was Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's reckless backward move off Jadeja, which opened the floodgates.

After Ashwin defeated first-innings centurion Mominul Haque in the opening minutes, Jadeja broke the back of the Bangladesh middle-order with his blistering performance, while Bumrah also contributed to the victory with his incisive bowling that led to three wickets.

India, who had a 52-run lead in the first innings, managed the required 95 runs in 17.2 overs after losing Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubhman Gill (6) to off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Jaiswal and Virat Kohli (29 not out) shared a 58-run stand for the third wicket.

As in the first innings, Rohit and Jaiswal went after the Bangladesh bowlers, although the home captain made an early exit when his sweep off Miraz landed straight into the hands of Hasan Mahmud.

Shubman Gill was also caught by Miraz.

Kohli turned the ball over to remain steady while Jaiswal also struggled with maturity to complete his second consecutive half-century. With just three runs needed to complete the win, Jaiswal chased Taijul Islam and ended up giving Shakib a catch at extra cover.

Rishabh Pant (4) finished the game with a boundary off Taijul.

India have not lost a match against Bangladesh in Test cricket and the fact that they won this competition in just six sessions after losing two full days due to rain speaks volumes about the rift between the two teams.

Bangladesh began the crucial day at 26 for two and quickly lost overnight batter and first innings centurion Mominul to Ashwin, but Shadman (50 off 101) kept a tight end with his fighting knock that hit 10 boundaries.

Shadman posted a 55-run stand for the fourth wicket with his skipper but Shanto (19 off 37) undid the good work with his poor shot selection.

He tried to sweep Jadeja backwards but missed the line to be bowled. Pacer Akash had Shadman caught by Jaiswal in the gorge.

After Shadman was sent off, Bangladesh's batting power collapsed and Jadeja proved too hot for the visitors. The left-arm spinner saw off Shanto, Litton Das (1) and Shakib Al Hasan (0) and broke the back of the Bangladesh middle order.

Shakib couldn't even open his account in what was probably the last innings of his Test career. His half-hearted defensive shot went straight back to Jadeja while Das hit one behind the wicket.

Bumrah then separated himself from Miraz (9) and Taijul Islam (0) to add further fuel to Bangladesh's misery. He ended Bangladesh's innings by removing Rahim (37).

Shadman negotiated with the Indian bowlers with confidence. He swept Ashwin and bowled Bumrah with authority but Mominul didn't last long.

He swept Ashwin but the ball bounced a little more off KL Rahul and caught him at leg-slip.

Aswhin's third wicket took his rival Shanto to the crease. Shanto took some time to calm down and remained cautious for a while.

However, Shadman hit solidly from his end. His defense was compact against Ashwin and he was not afraid to use his feet against the off-spinner. He rotated the shot and kept finding boundaries to keep the score going.

Rohit brought Mohammed Siraj into the attack and almost caught Shanto, but the Bangladesh captain's cross flew through the empty space between second and gully to the boundary.

Shadman handled the Siraj challenge well. He hit a widish off his own at the fence and also drove through the covers as the pacer hit full on while bowling around the wicket. He reached his 50th year, but left soon afterwards.
