The Mets won the series opener here 8-4 on Tuesday, fueled by a nightmarish fifth inning from the Brewers. There, manager Pat Murphy pulled starter Freddy Peralta after just four innings and 68 pitches, saying he was “probably 18 pitches away from his – his kind of limit” and arguing that their full bullpen justified it. That wasn't the case in this one, as the Mets' offense tagged the Brewers' relievers for five runs in that inning (and helped overcome their own pitching woes: starter Luis Severino pitched six innings but gave up both in the second). as well as the lead from the fourth in the second inning).

Wednesday's starting pitching matchup also appears to be going in the Mets' favor, with Sean Manaea (12-6, 3.47 ERA, 3.83 FIP, 1.084 WHIP, 184 strikeouts) facing Frankie Montas (7-11, 4, 84 ERA, 4.35) starts FIP, 1.637 WHIP 148 strikeouts). So an interesting element to watch here will be when Murphy goes to the bullpen this time and how that decision will be discussed on the stand.
