Mike Elko explains why Texas A&M quarterback wasn't dressed for Bowling Green game

Conner Weigman's shoulder is still not right and so Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko made the decision quite easily not to use his starting quarterback on Saturday night against Bowling Green for the second time in a row.

The second-year signal-caller didn't even change for the Week 4 game.

“We didn't want to give him the shot,” Elko explained. “He's struggling with shoulder pain. We're trying to get him to the point where he can throw again without any problems.”

Weigman continues to recover from an injury to the AC joint in his right throwing shoulder sustained against McNeese in Week 2. Despite his injury, Weigman continued to play in the 52-10 win, throwing for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.

But the injury didn't pan out as well as Elko would have liked, and Weigman was unable to play in the Week 3 SEC opener at Florida. With Weigman out, redshirt freshman backup quarterback Marcel Reed started and played well in the win over the Gators. Reed threw for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 33-20 victory at The Swamp.

Then Elko decided to bench Weigman again against Bowling Green. Reed was back in the game and again performed well, throwing for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the 26-20 win without throwing an interception for the second week in a row.

The 25th-ranked Aggies improved their record to 3-1 on Saturday night while Weigman was sidelined. The quarterback's focus now turns to Week 5, when Texas A&M faces Arkansas in the Southwest Classic in Arlington, Texas.
