Construction companies consider possible dome construction for the Browns

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has found that construction companies are already lining up, trying to profit if the Browns decide to build a dome. We investigated after seeing a post on a construction industry group's website.

The construction crews in your neighborhood are currently wondering if they could be hired to help build a dome for the Browns.

I-Team: Another dirt bike robbery. Why didn't anyone call the police?

The team is considering a major renovation of its downtown stadium or building a dome at Brook Park.

The Builders Exchange, a nonprofit construction trade group, released information about the dome possibility and received responses from companies across the state.

“It was very popular. More than 300 companies viewed it,” said Ashley Grandetti, executive director of the Builders Exchange.

The Builders Exchange informs companies about projects that are progressing or currently being discussed.

The organization published all previous findings on a possible dome project, after which numerous developers began to examine it.

“So everyone is involved. General contractors, suppliers. When you lay turf. When you install scoreboards. When you manufacture food service equipment. So it's contractors, subcontractors, suppliers,” Grandetti said.

This prompted us to check with Brook Park City Hall again. Have building plans been submitted yet? Or has approval been sought for plans for a dome? The City of Brook Park says not yet. But calls are coming in about the project.

“Officially, nothing has come to us,” said Paul Marnecheck, economic development officer for Brook Park.

He added, however, that just talk of a dome had resulted in daily calls to City Hall.

“Even property owners are saying, 'Hey, what can the city do? We want to fix up our property. We want to invest in our property,'” Marnecheck said. “Some people who want to invest in property want to know what the building codes are for Brook Park? What are the codes?” he added.

Maybe concrete will be poured to build a dome for the Browns, or maybe not. But just in case, more and more people are wondering if they can make money off the project. And construction companies have started thinking ahead about what it might take to get a piece of the contract.

“I think everyone wants a piece of the pie,” Grandetti said.

For this article, we also asked the city of Cleveland and the Browns. Neither of them has yet informed us of any new decisions regarding a stadium project.
