The resilient food truck owner is back at First Friday after her business was stolen at gunpoint earlier in the day

Shortly after midnight, two men stole a truck and food trailer in Phoenix while holding the owner at gunpoint.

Luckily, the truck and trailer were quickly recovered by Phoenix police a few hours later.

After the absolutely harrowing ordeal, the food truck is back in business on First Friday.

Lahotkeria owner Simone Gamez Acosta says she's grateful to be back in business so soon, but it's been a long, stressful morning after she was held at gunpoint and had her truck stolen.

Lahotkeria is a dessert food trailer. They were packing up for an event – just minutes before leaving – when two men approached them around 1:00 a.m

“They started saying, ‘Take everything out of your pockets. Give me everything that has value.' “I saw the guy had his gun and started pointing it at me,” Acosta said.

It all happened on the morning of October 4th near Indian School Road and 67th Avenue.

The men wore hoodies and face coverings.

“I asked myself, ‘Why are you doing this to me? I have children, don't do this to me.' He said, “I have kids too.”

She was then pulled from her truck and stolen by the two men with the food truck attached.

Luckily, her phone was still in the truck, so Phoenix police found the truck and trailer with the gun inside.

“I'm still in shock. I thought it would be my last night and I wouldn't be able to see my babies anymore,” she said.

It was a long night for her.

She had to identify her car keys and the suspects, clean up the damaged trailer and prepare for First Friday.

“I understand that times are tough, but we also have problems and that’s why we have to run a business.”

Simone says this business helps her cover her tuition fees.
