Dodgers vs. Padres NLDS: How to watch Game 1, TV, start time

LOS ANGELES – After five days of rest and practice, the Dodgers are back Saturday for Game 1 of the 2024 National League Division Series, hosting the Padres at Dodger Stadium for the second straight year.

This is the 12th straight year the Dodgers have played in the NLDS, and they are 7-4 in Game 1 of this round, which dates back to 2023. How Game 1 went for the Dodgers has matched the outcome of the Division Series in eight of their last 11 games – the only variations being winning Game 1 in 2019 and 2022 and losing Game 1 in 2021.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will receive the ball in Game 1 on Saturday, which could give him five days off to start Game 5 if necessary. It's the 25-year-old right-hander's first MLB postseason game, but he has experience on the big stage.

Yamamoto won the Pacific League MVP and the Eiji Sawamura Award for the league's best pitcher three years in a row, took Orix to the Japan Series championship round last year, won the World Baseball Classic with Japan in 2023 and won a gold medal at the buzzer in the 2021 Olympics.

“He's still experienced as far as pitching in big-ball games,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday. “I am convinced of talent. I think his heart rate will be fine in his first playoff game.”

Dylan Cease will start for the Padres in Game 1. Both starting pitchers allowed three runs in five innings in their last start against the other team – Cease on September 25 and Yamamoto on April 12, both games at Dodger Stadium.

For those attending the game, gates to the Dodger Stadium parking lot will open at 2:38 p.m. Saturday. Gates to the stadium will open at 3:08 p.m., with first pitch at 5:38 p.m.
