Light heavyweights Ovince Saint Preux and Ryan Spann have completed the early preliminary rounds at UFC 307 in Salt Lake City.

Spann, a former LFA champion, was looking to pull himself out of a three-fight slump while OSP was 2-1 in his last three fights, including a win over Shogun Rua.

Spann opened the first with a leg kick and landed another moment later. Saint Preux wanted to shoot back, but his leg grazed the cup on the thigh, which briefly interrupted the action. On the restart, Spann was there with his left hand and came over the top. OSP would answer and land one of these, but Spann ripped off a massive right punch and then blocked a guillotine! The pair would go down, Spann on top, and in just a few seconds Saint Preux was tapping out!

With the win, Spann returns to the win column for the first time since November 2022. It was also his tenth career victory via guillotine, clearly an assist to Ryan “Superman” Spann. For Ovince Saint Preux, the fight was the last in his current contract. Whether he returns remains to be seen, as the UFC is not known for re-signing fighters who suffer defeat after fighting out their contracts.

Official result: Ryan Spann defeated. Ovince Saint Preux by submission (rear-naked choke), round 1, 1:35
