Nick Saban trolled after saying Vanderbilt was 'not hard to play'

Nick Saban was not at FirstBank Stadium on the Alabama sideline against Vanderbilt football practice on Saturday.

But the former Crimson Tide coach showed up anyway.

Moments after its historic victory over No. 1 Alabama, Vanderbilt trolled Saban on the video board by replaying his now-infamous comments about Vanderbilt's home game atmosphere. Earlier this college football season, Saban commented on ESPN's “The Pat McAfee Show” that Vanderbilt is “the only place in the SEC that isn't hard to play.”

Behind Diego Pavia's big day, completing 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns, the Commodores handed Saban's former program its first loss of the season on Saturday. The win also marked Vanderbilt defeating an AP Top 5 team for the first time in program history.

The seven-time national championship coach, now an analyst on ESPN's “College GameDay,” made the comments back on Sept. 20 when he joined McAfee live for his weekly spot.

“But the only place in the SEC that isn’t hard to play is Vanderbilt. When you play at Vanderbilt, you have more fans there than they do,” Saban said. “And that’s no disrespect to them, it’s just the truth.”

Disrespect or not, it seems like the Commodores have had the last laugh here, Coach.

But that wasn't the only trolling that affected the Crimson Tide program after Saturday's win.

Earlier this week, Alabama's social media team mocked the Vanderbilt program by labeling Saturday's game at FirstBank Stadium the Crimson Tide's “away game” in a graphic.

Of course, Alabama's social media team pointed out the limited capacity at FirstBank Stadium – 28,934 fans instead of the usual 40,350 – due to ongoing construction at the stadium.

With Saturday's win, Vanderbilt snapped a 23-game losing streak against Alabama. According to Vanderbilt's record book database, the Commodores are now 20-62-4 in the all-time series against the Crimson Tide.
