Colorado Springs police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed during an argument outside a youth soccer game

Colorado Springs police are searching for a suspect after an argument escalated into a fatal shooting.

The department says in its online crime report that the shooting occurred in the 1600 block of South Murray Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. During the argument, one man pulled out a gun, shot the other once and fled, the department said. The victim died from his injuries at the scene of the accident.

CBS News Colorado news partner KKTV reported that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Atlas Middle School at 1602 South Murray Boulevard as a football game was taking place on one of the school's athletic fields.

According to police, a 29-year-old man was killed. While police are searching for a suspect, investigators do not believe there is a threat to the public.

The school posted the following message on social media:

Dear Atlas families,

On the weekends, Atlas rents out our sports fields and facilities to external groups.

Today there was a fight at one of these games organized by an outside group that left one person dead. Although this took place on Atlas grounds, neither Atlas nor its students were involved or affected. Our condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.

Colorado Springs Police are responding to this incident. This is an ongoing investigation. We will update here when we have more information about our Atlas families.

A witness, a 10-year-old boy who attended that soccer game, said he heard the shooting, which was followed by chaos.

“I was actually playing a soccer game and heard four shots,” the boy told KKTV after the shooting. “Then I see the gun flying through the air, then everyone starts running.”

Police did not initially provide a description of the suspect. According to police, no one was injured in the shooting.
