Army Golden Knights deliver game ball before Tulsa-Army football game

It's game day at the University of Tulsa as the football team takes on the Army in celebration of Military Appreciation Day.

“I think it will be a good game day today,” said Staff Sergeant Daniel Gerlach.

It will be the first time the two teams have met since 2007 and the Army Golden Knights want to make it memorable.

“Jump in, skydive, free fall right into the game, it will be a packed audience,” said Sergeant First Class Zach Krietenstein.

As the skydiving team loads the plane, they suit up and prepare to make their 5,000-foot descent onto the soccer field with the cue ball.

“I'm terrified… no, not at all, I'm excited, it's fun,” Krietenstein said.

As the stands at Chapman Stadium fill under clear blue skies, the Golden Knights soar above them.

By taking the plunge, the men hope to connect people at the game with the Army.

“We are the army’s ambassadors, that’s how I like to think of it,” said Krietenstein.

And also take the opportunity to encourage support for the military.

“What I like about it is not only that I get to tell my stories or our stories to the people down there, but also that I get to represent the U.S. Army and the military service in general,” Gerlach said.

A bond forged through service and a brotherhood that forged thousands of feet in the sky.

“I would trust these guys with my life any day of the week, any jump,” Gerlach said.
