Sharks at Golden Knights (Preseason Game 6): Lines, game thread and how to watch

As expected, Macklin Celebrini did not travel to Vegas with the San Jose Sharks this weekend. This is the Sharks' final preseason game before Thursday's home opener and there are still a few spots available.

In the forward group, Collin Graf, Ethan Cardwell and Danil Gushchin are still ahead of the Barracuda. Interestingly, San Jose Hockey Now's Sheng Peng reports that Klim Kostin's name was also in play when head coach Ryan Warsofsky was asked which players were vying for the remaining spots. One might assume that Kostin has the inside track, if only because he is the only one of the four who is not eligible for an exemption.

In defense, Luca Cagnoni remains with the Sharks, as do Shakir Mukhamadullin and Jack Thompson. With that in mind, we expect Cagnoni to find his way back to the Barracuda as it's a big jump from the WHL to the NHL. While it's possible, there's no reason to rush Cagnoni before he's ready. That leaves Thompson and Mukhamadullin.

Both are eligible for waivers and both appear ready. The real question is: Who is hurt more by spending time in the press box as the team's seventh defenseman? Or will the Sharks do something bolder and use Marc-Edouard Vlasic as the seventh defenseman?

Kostin, Cardwell, Thompson and Cagnoni are expected to play tonight. Opening night lineups are due Monday, so decisions will be made soon.

San Jose Sharks lines

Thanks to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News, we know who will be playing for the Sharks tonight.

Given that there is no Will Smith, no Celebrini, and no Mikael Granlund, your guess about the lines is as good as mine. Mackenzie Blackwood was the first one off the ice, so he should be the starter in net tonight.

The Vegas Golden Knights schedule for October 5, 2024

As for the Vegas Golden Knights, there aren't really a lot of details about who will play, but Julian Gaudio of The Hockey News reports that Zach Aston-Reese, Tanner Laczynski, Jonas Røndbjerg, Ben Hutton and Kaedan Korczak all took part in the optional game have morning skate, which probably means they will be healthy by this evening.

Adin Hill is expected to start in net tonight.
