Coldplay Promotes New Album “Moon Music” on QVC and “The Tonight Show”

Over The Tonight ShowMartin embarked on a solo side quest to resurrect Nigel, the alter ego he imagined when he went undercover to perform “All My Love” at a Las Vegas karaoke bar last month. As a result, host Jimmy Fallon regretfully informed the audience that the singer would no longer be performing as promised. Among the stunned crowd was Nigel, who Fallon invited on stage after spotting his red balloon and keyboard.

Nigel tried to play music to the audience, but only tried songs to which he didn't know the words. Taylor Swift's “Blank Space” became a song about finding a parking space. Lionel Richie's “Hello” turned into a missing person's poster. The Beatles' “Yellow Submarine” offered a glimpse into New York's future if we don't get climate change under control soon: “Underwater Subway Station.” Needless to say, Nigel doesn't make much money busking.

Later in the show, Martin returned without his geek costume to talk about the future of Coldplay. “It’s maybe a bit hippie The Tonight Showbut I don’t really know where the songs come from,” he said. “It was always clear to me that we should do twelve things. This is number 10. Number 11 is a musical and number 12 is a very small album, in our bedrooms, so to speak. That's the truth.” The final album won't mean complete retirement. Martin believes the band will simply find other outlets to channel their music into.

They still feel particularly cooperative even as they near the end. Their single “We Pray” features English rapper Little Simz, Nigerian singer Burna Boy, Palestinian-Chilean musician Elyanna and Argentinian singer Tini. Martin and Fallon sang a version of the recording The Tonight Showwith Fallon trying out the voices of other potential collaborators: Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Adam Sandler and Barry Gibb.

Nothing is off limits for Martin when it comes to expanding Coldplay's range. In a recent interview with Rolling StoneThe musician shared: “What we are as a band is a band that is committed to doing what feels right at the time and following the songs.”

This philosophy has led her to collaborations with everyone from Avicii to BTS. “I think with all the songs we chose for this, they were all allowed to be themselves, and the band's identity has grown to reflect that,” he continued. “If we said, 'Oh, we want to do a song with One Direction,' no one would think anything of it. I don't think that's possible right now because they've gone in five directions. But it’s fun to let the band grow.”
