Manchester United defender Jonny Evans on Sky Sports: “We got a point away from home against a good team. The other night when we conceded three goals, we wanted to play more defensively to give ourselves a chance. We were looking for that one moment of quality, maybe on the counterattack, and we almost achieved that in the end.

“Fair play to Villa. They are good players and you never feel comfortable. You always have to be on guard and ready.”

“I still feel like I'm playing the game I've always played, I still feel like I have the speed in my legs that gets me out of the bad moments.”

“(Erik ten Hag) told me after the game the other night that I would play in this game. Even in the game against Porto, I didn't expect that I would come on as a substitute. It is unlikely that there will be a double change of centre-back. Every game I play now, I just enjoy it.

“It is still a privilege to play for this club. The pressure that comes with it is part of it. At the end you see the fans, the support they give the team. They have supported the players massively over the years.”

“It was great for him (Erik ten Hag) to see that. He got a bit emotional the other night, you could see it in him when he forgot about the game. You could see everyone running to the ground to get a half-time decent result.”
