What Andy Dalton said about his relationship with Panthers quarterback Bryce Young

Bryce Young has not fared well on the field in his two starts this season. Young was shaken by the first pass he threw, turning in a performance that would have been historically awful if the sample wasn't too small to count. However, the former No. 1 overall pick of the Carolina Panthers is at least doing and saying the right things off the field, even though he's reportedly taken aback, shocked and “pissed off” about being on the bench.

No one appreciates that more than the man who took his place in the starting lineup. Here's what Andy Dalton told reporters on Wednesday when asked about his relationship with the young quarterback, according to Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer.

“It meant a lot to him to handle the situation the way he did. And that he still has so much support, not just for me but for this team, I mean, he's still doing a lot of the same things that he did before that.” The change has happened… the kind of person he is wasn't going to change because of this situation, so I was very grateful for that. And honestly, everything that happened probably made our friendship even stronger because of it.

Young still has time to develop into a franchise quarterback, even if his performances so far haven't inspired much hope. The way Young has conducted himself in this situation suggests he has the wherewithal to one day break through. Right now, though, it's Dalton the guy And the way he's playing right now, it would be a malpractice to go back to Young.
