The LDS Church will build a temple in Queen Creek: What you should know

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Oct. 6 that 17 new temples would be built, including one in Arizona.

President Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of a new temple in Queen Creek during the Church’s October 2024 general conference.

“Why are we building temples at such an unprecedented pace?” Nelson said in a press release. “Why? Because the Lord told us to. The blessings of the Temple help gather Israel on both sides of the veil. These blessings also help prepare a people who will help prepare the world for the Second Coming to prepare the Lord!”

Here's what you should know about the new temples announced by the LDS Church.

What new LDS temples have been announced?

In addition to the new temple in Queen Creek, the church announced 16 others around the world.

  • Puerto Montt, Chile
  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Milan, Italy
  • Abuja, Nigeria

  • Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
  • El Paso, Texas
  • Huntsville, Ala
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • Summit, New Jersey
  • Price, Utah

LDS Yuma Temple Announced in April

In April, Nelson announced plans to build a temple in Yuma. It was one of 15 temples announced during the final session of General Conference in April 2024.

“Latter-day Saints view temples as the Lord’s house and the holiest places of worship on earth,” the church said in a press release. “The primary purpose of temples is that faithful members of the Church may receive peace, inspiration, and spiritual strength as they make sacred covenants with God in His holy house.”

How many LDS temples are there in Arizona?

After the construction of the Yuma and Queen Creek temples, there will be eight temples in the state.
