NASCAR drivers and teams are on edge after the serious accident at Talladega

The “Big One” on Lap 183 at Talladega caused much confusion and left several drivers angry because of the damaged vehicle policy.

A record 28 drivers were involved in the accident, including many playoff drivers. In particular, Chase Briscoe and Chase Elliott got stuck in the infield grass and had to be pushed back to pit road. Under this policy, drivers who exit their race car are not eligible to participate in the race. So Elliott and Briscoe flatly refused to get out.

Richard Boswell, Briscoe's crew chief, insisted that Briscoe remain in the car even when officers asked him to get out. Briscoe was eventually dragged back to pit road while Elliott was pushed. Both teams were allowed to make repairs in the pit lane and finish the race. The confusion that resulted angered the No. 14 team and many others.

“I've never seen a more disorganized deal in my life,” Briscoe said, according to Jordan Bianchi of The athlete.

Since several cars are still stuck on the race track, NASCAR made the decision to raise the red flag and put out the yellow one. However, the pace car was not moved, which, according to Jeff Gluck, upset Christopher Bell The athlete.

Josh Berry, one of the many drivers involved in the accident, took sarcastic aim at NASCAR.

“All I know is that all those cars parked in Turn 3 better not be towed to pit road, mate. Because that would violate the damaged vehicle policy,” Berry said via Matt Weaver of Sportnaut. “Damn car 42 is out there doing burnouts and throwing rubber at security trying to drive off. But if you get four flat tires and get towed to the pit lane, then it’s done, right?”

Joey Logano described the scene in Talladega as he got out of his car after the accident as “silly.”

“I don’t know yet,” Logano said when asked if there was a problem with his car’s lifting system. “I didn't feel it going up, but I also had a few things broken, so it's hard to say whether the lift system worked or not. But it's kind of weird. I get out of the car and only see a few cars where we have been standing there for 10 minutes after a red flag. Everyone just sits there and hopes they can roll a little. It’s just silly.”
