Bo Nix makes Broncos history with a blowout Week 5 win over the Raiders

It's still very early in the season, but it's great to see Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix already making significant history as the team's starting quarterback. Nix opened the season as the first rookie quarterback since John Elway to start in Week 1, and now he's done something that even John Elway couldn't do in his rookie year in 1983.

For the first time in Denver Broncos history, a rookie quarterback has won three consecutive starts in his first season.

Nix and the Broncos stormed back from an early (and ugly) 10-0 deficit against the Las Vegas Raiders, and the offense continued some of the familiar struggles we saw earlier in the season and last week in the elements against the Jets.

But then it really clicked.

Nix was sensational against the Raiders, especially in the second half where he was completely captivated. And one of his best throws all day was unfortunately dropped by his former college teammate Troy Franklin in the end zone for a touchdown.

Nix completed 19 of 27 pass attempts for 207 yards and two touchdowns, as well as the aforementioned rushing touchdown.

And how about this one?

Nix is also only the second Denver Broncos rookie quarterback to have two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in the same game. Tim Tebow did this in his rookie season in 2011.

So not only did the Denver Broncos improve to 3-2 this season, but they also ended an eight-game losing streak against the Las Vegas Raiders. In fact, it was the first time the Broncos had ever beaten the Raiders since 2019, and they weren't even there yet Las Vegas Raiders back then. They were still the Oakland Raiders.

It's hard not to be impressed with what we saw from Nix in this game against the Raiders, especially the way he got this team moving the ball in the second half. Nix threw throws at all levels of the field, played with his legs and made no mistakes when playing football.

There was an interesting turning point in this game when Nix became extremely upset on the sideline in a heated conversation with Sean Payton. He allegedly continued for several minutes, talking not only to Payton, but also to the wide receivers on the sideline. There was one play as the Broncos tried to push the tempo where center Luke Wattenberg seemed to think Nix was under center and he passed it to no one.

On the next play, Nix fired a perfect pass to Troy Franklin, but it fell incomplete in the end zone.

At this point, Nix was fired up and didn't really miss the rest of the game. This was a big sign of life from the Denver Broncos offense, which scored 27 of the team's 34 points on the afternoon. The Broncos have won three straight and Nix has made some nice progress in the last three games.
