Troy University is lifting the shelter in place order

TROY, Ala. (WSFA) – Troy University has lifted its shelter in place after sending out an emergency alert Saturday morning.

All protective orders were lifted shortly before 1:30 p.m

According to a Post on an official university social media pageTroy University Police responded to a call of a person with a gun on the Troy campus near Newman Hall, a residence hall.

A shelter-in-place alert was sent out at 11:13 a.m

According to social media posts from Troy University S.O.SEveryone on campus was told to shelter in place and everyone off campus was told to stay away from campus.

The general shelter alert was lifted shortly before noon, but anyone staying in Newman 100 or 200 was told to remain sheltered in their rooms.

After a thorough investigation of the area, university police found no evidence of a threat to campus.

During this time, there was a report of a suspicious person in another part of campus. Police responded and arrested a suspect who still had outstanding warrants. Police do not believe the person was in any way connected to the calls that triggered the shelter-in-place order.

University police are continuing to investigate but believe there is no active threat to campus.
