Watch: Former Oregon Ducks star drops his first NFL touchdown catch

Troy Franklin should be very popular in the Mile High City.

The Denver Broncos' rookie wide receiver had a unique opportunity to catch his first-ever touchdown pass in the Broncos' game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Instead, the former Oregon Ducks star dropped a deep pass from Bo Nix – his former Oregon teammate – and he has to wait.

Franklin ran under the pass, but the football went right through his hands.

Nix deflected attention from Franklin's drop and blamed himself, saying he faked the pass.

“I wouldn’t put him through that,” Nix told reporters after the game. “That was probably a 60-yard ball that he had to track down and catch. The fact that he managed to do it when I crashed it was pretty impressive.

“These are the ones you watch on Sundays and sometimes you just miss. It was good for him to make his first catch on the over route. I thought he was about to break out. I think I can help him a lot more than I am. It was very close. So we’d like to have it back and I’ll probably put a yard less on it and he’ll catch it.”

One could argue that Nix's pass was a little too long, but wide receivers are paid to make catches like Franklin's. Franklin caught one pass in the game – two scores – for 20 yards. He won't forget the lost passport for a long time.
