Flaming Lips most recently performed in their hometown of Oklahoma City in August for Summer Freak Out at OKC's Zoo Amphitheater. They played their 2002 albums Yoshimi fights against the pink robots and 1999s The Soft Bulletinin their entirety. The group recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, having been founded in 1983.

“I think a big part of why we're still together and still touring and still doing things that people care about is because we try to move with the times or move with the times “to change,” Drodz said recently The Oklahoman of their long-term success. “A lot of bands make a few records, get stuck with that one sound and do that for the rest of their career, whatever. And that's okay. But I think it would probably kill us if we did something like that. Even though it doesn't seem like we're going through big changes, we still feel like we're going through changes. This helps us feel new and fresh.”
