Haryana and J&K Assembly election results highlights: Who is ahead and where?

NEW DELHI: The early trends of Haryana Assembly Elections There was a neck-and-neck fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress on Tuesday. While the BJP has crossed the halfway mark in Haryana, the Congress-National Conference alliance has maintained its lead in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is seeking a third consecutive term Nayab Singh Saini as the face of the Prime Minister in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the election campaign and relied on his “dual” government.
The Congress party in Haryana, led by leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is eyeing a comeback after a decade-long hiatus. The grand old party's election campaign focused on issues such as unemployment, agrarian distress and law and order.
Here are the highlights
Haryana

  • According to initial trends, Congress veteran Bhupinder Singh Hooda is ahead by 11,000 votes.
  • Wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat, who is contesting on the Congress ticket, is leading in the Julana constituency, as per early trends.
  • India's richest woman and former minister Savitri Jindal is leading in the Hisar constituency against incumbent BJP MP Kamal Gupta in the early trends.
  • Prime Minister Nayab Singh Saini will lead from Ladwa.
  • BJP heavyweight Anil Vij is trailing Ambala Cantt by over 2,000 votes.

According to the Election Commission, the BJP is leading with 46 seats out of 90, while the Congress is leading in Haryana with 37 seats.
Jammu and Kashmir

  • Omar Abdullah leads from Budgam and Gander and Ganderbal.
  • BJP leader Ravinder Raina is behind in the initial trends compared to Naushera constituency.
  • J&K People's Conference chairman and former minister Sajad Gani Lone is leading from Handwara with a margin of 916 votes. However, Lone trails Kupwara by over 6,000 votes.

According to the Election Commission, the alliance between the Congress and the National Conference has crossed the halfway mark and is expected to form the government with a comfortable majority in the initial trends.
What election polls predicted in Haryana?
Election polls predicted that the Congress will come back to power in Haryana after a gap of 10 years. The party will win around 55 seats, the BJP 27 seats, the INLD 2 seats, the JJP 1 seat and the others around 5 seats. According to pollster Matrize, the Congress is expected to win 55-62 seats, the BJP 18-24, the INLD 3-6, the JJP 0-3 and the others 2-5 seats. Peoples Pulse has predicted that Congress will get around 49-61 seats, BJP 20-32, INLD 2-3, JJP 0-1 and others 3-5 seats.
What election polls predicted in Jammu and Kashmir?
Polls for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir predicted that the Congress-National Conference alliance could win around 43 seats, three short of the majority, while the BJP could win 27 seats, the PDP 7 and others 13 seats.
