Election results 2024 live: Trends show BJP to score hat-trick in Haryana; The NC-Congress alliance crosses the halfway mark in J&K

Haryana and Jammu Kashmir Election Results Live: Congress and BJP are in a tight contest in Haryana while NC-Congress has secured a comfortable lead in Jammu and Kashmir as per early trends.

The results of the 2024 general elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir are expected to be declared, marking the first significant election result after the recent Lok Sabha elections. The counting of votes has begun, first with postal voting and then with voting through electronic voting machines ( EVM). The political parties are eagerly awaiting the results.

The 90-seat J&K Assembly election is historic as it was the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which significantly changed the region's political landscape. Election polls suggest a close contest between the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance and the BJP, with the alliance potentially securing around 43 seats, falling short of the 46-seat majority.

In Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking a third consecutive term despite facing anti-incumbent sentiments. The Congress, emboldened by exit polls that point to a possible comeback, is determined to return to power after a decade in opposition. The Haryana elections saw the first major direct contest between the BJP and the Congress since the Lok Sabha polls and the winning party will use the result to build a narrative in its favor for upcoming polls in other states.

Unlike Haryana, most seats in Jammu and Kashmir saw multiple contests rather than a direct fight between Congress and BJP. Election polls suggest that the BJP will secure around 55 seats, significantly surpassing the majority mark of 46 seats, while the Congress is expected to win around 27 seats. The INLD is expected to win two seats, the JJP one seat and the others around five seats. Stay with TOI for latest developments
