Passengers recall horrific landing as Frontier plane catches fire

Passengers were left feeling unwell after a Frontier Airlines plane caught fire at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Saturday.

“I noticed something strange, but I don’t really know what happened,” said passenger Jose Mena.

“We are a bit shaken by the flight. The last thing we expected was to land in Vegas and be surrounded by fire engines, you know? “When we touched down, it was a very hard landing, followed by the plane shaking,” Kevin Josef said.

Mena said passengers were confused and claimed they were left in the dark about the situation.

“Honestly, I thought we were going to explode because we saw the fire and didn’t know why,” Mena said.

“Even before we landed, you can see them (firefighters) on the ground. It was kind of strange that they were standing on the tarmac with the lights on. I thought something was wrong, I didn't think it was our plane. ” said Joseph. “I also don’t think the crew themselves really knew what was going on, so we just stayed there until they told us to get off the plane. I'm actually a firefighter, so they just put a little water in it. told me there was something wrong with the brakes or the wheels.

On the plane, Mena said passengers could feel the heat.

“There was just a child crying,” Mena said. “The temperature, I think it was 100 degrees.”

Frontier said in a statement that at 3:15 p.m., just as the plane was landing, pilots spotted smoke and declared an emergency. The airline added that 190 passengers and seven crew members were on board and no injuries were reported. Frontier noted that customers will receive a refund on the plane.

However, Joseff said the experience has left his family frightened and they are unsure if they will get on a plane soon.

“My whole family is shocked. We’re talking about buying a van and driving it home because we don’t want to fly after that,” he said.
