Harris leads Trump in new poll; The former president still has the most confidence when it comes to the economy

Vice President Kamala Harris has a slight edge over former President Donald Trump in a new poll released Tuesday that examined which candidate voters see as the candidate who represents change. However, Trump maintained his lead among male voters and retained the trust of most voters on economic issues.

The latest New York Times/Sienna College national poll found that if the election were held today, 49% of respondents would vote for Harris and 46% would vote for Trump. It's the first time Harris has led Trump in the Times/Sienna poll since President Biden dropped out in July.

Among respondents who viewed the vice president, not Trump, as a break from the status quo, Harris narrowly came out on top, at 46% compared to 44% for the former president.

Harris' lead in that category was larger when broken down by non-white and younger voters, reaching 61% and 58%, respectively, compared to 29% of non-white and 34% of younger voters who supported Trump, according to the poll favourited.

Trump also has an 11-point lead over Harris among male voters, a group that also favored Trump over Biden in the 2020 election, according to the survey.

The North Carolina Republican Party is focused on “political melee” to raise the game in the battleground state

While national polls are often a good indicator of the general mood among Americans, they do not always predict who will win elections, which are often in key states.

In the latest Fox News poll of registered voters in North Carolina, considered one of those battleground states, Harris has a 2 percentage point lead over Trump, 50% to 48%. A month earlier, Trump was ahead by 1 point (50% to 49%), a 3-point shift in the presidential race.
