WFAN's Evan Roberts was unhappy with “disgusting” Phillies fans

WFAN anchor Evan Roberts was at Citizen Bank Park on Sunday to catch the New York Mets' 7-6 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of the NLCS, and Philly fans apparently lived up to his expectations the game had.

“They were so disgusting and such terrible people,” Roberts said Monday Evan & Tiki show. “The idea of ​​them celebrating a championship actually hurts me.”

He didn't say what Phillies fans did to draw such ire.

Roberts said the actions of Phillies fans during the game made him think about doing the once unthinkable: cheering on the Yankees in a World Series.

“If there is a Yankees/Phillies World Series, that would be weeks away. It's time to let the wounds heal. Now is the time to remember that I never have to return to this disgusting city again,” he added. “But does my experience at this point make it more likely that I would root for the Yankees in a Yankees/Phillies World Series? Oh, hell yeah.”

Roberts discussed attending the game with his family and reconsidered that decision as the Mets took a 3-0 lead and possibly a 2-0 lead.

“I'm thinking, 'How are we going to get out of here alive if the Mets win?'” Evan said. “I actually thought the Phillies win helped us get out in one piece.”

It's unclear whether the Mets' win would have been worse for him than what actually happened, when Nick Castellanos hit a walk-off run in the bottom of the 9th to tie the series at one player apiece.

In the end, Roberts felt that Phillies fans lived up to his expectations, for better or worse.

“They were everything you would expect,” Evan said. “I’ll give it to Philly. Whatever you believe it is.

“I went to two Nets/Sixers playoff games and didn't feel nearly as much disgust as I did last night. It wasn’t even on the same planet as far as their behavior went.”
