Metronet outages in Ankeny, Ames and central Iowa: What you should know

A Metronet outage in central Iowa and other areas of the Midwest has left customers without internet.

How many people experience the Metronet outage?

According to Downdetector, the outage began around 10pm on Monday, with just over 3,200 people losing service. The outages tapered off around 1 a.m. Tuesday but picked up again around 8 a.m., with more than 800 people reporting connection problems.

Metronet could not immediately be reached for comment.

Where are Metronet outages?

The bulk of the internet problems occurred in central Iowa, including Ames and Ankeny. According to Downdetector, there have also been reports in southwest Iowa and in border states such as Minnesota, Illinois and Missouri.

The Ames Community School District is reporting an outage

Ames Community School District's phones are down due to the Metronet outage, according to a Facebook post from the district. Due to the interruption, student absences must be reported via the Infinite Campus Portal.
