“DWTS” guest judge Gene Simmons booed Reginald VelJohnson’s score

Gene Simmons was not particularly well received at his jury Dancing with the stars.

Simmons, who fittingly served as a guest judge at Tuesday night's Hair Metal Night, received a chorus of boos after revealing his score for Reginald VelJohnson, who cha-cha'd to Twisted's “I Wanna Rock” with pro partner Emma Slater Sister danced. The pair received a generous 6 from Carrie Ann Inaba and then 5 from fellow judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and Simmons.

The crowd first expressed their displeasure when Hough showed his scorecard, but whistled particularly loudly when Simmons continued the trend.

Before the results were announced, Simmons had a few kind words for VelJohnson, who told co-host Julianne Hough that he channeled the legendary Kiss rocker for his performance. “Hey Reggie, you've got a beautiful woman right next to you who can twist and turn anything and knows how to move it and stuff,” Simmons said. “But I want to tell you that as a man who has been performing around the world for half a century, I am a big deal, Reggie. It all depends on the attitude. And you have something beautiful.” Face. They love you.

Although 72-year-old VelJohnson has consistently finished at the bottom of the pack so far in Season 33, Inaba also noted in her remarks that he has been a fan favorite. “You blew me away, okay?” she told VelJohnson and Slater. “There's something about you that's just so captivating to watch. You take the fewest steps of anyone else in this competition, but somehow we all agree and that’s worth mentioning, right?”
