Sabrina Carpenter praises Taylor Swift for her “gracious” support

Sabrina Carpenter appeared on CBS News Sunday Morning over the weekend and took the opportunity to share what it was like to have the support of someone like Taylor Swift. Carpenter, who opened for Swift's Eras Tour earlier this year, said the singer has been very supportive of her career.

“You just watch her walk across a room and it's very easy to understand that she's so composed, she's graceful, she's graceful,” Carpenter told CBS. She added that Swift never gave her specific advice, but instead modeled what fame should look like.

“I wouldn't say it's a verbal thing, just that she's very supportive of me and knows who I am as a person and is very supportive of that too,” Carpenter said. “I'm grateful for that. I think when we talk about how to deal with all of this, I think everyone has such an individual, unique experience that there's no blanket statement or advice on how not to let it rattle you. You just have to exist and figure out what you can handle and what you don’t want to handle.”

She added: “You just find out along the way. I know that sounds a little vague, but I really believe that you find the people you surround yourself with that make you feel safe, and then you move on.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Carpenter discussed her current Short n' Sweet tour, writing her own music and misconceptions about her. “I think it’s a misconception that I don’t write my music,” she noted. “I think a lot of people think because I have a producer and co-writers that I love, that I sit in the room and I'm on my phone and I'm not writing songs.”

She also talked about casting her boyfriend Barry Keoghan in her music video for “Please Please Please.” “I asked myself, 'Who is the best actor I can find for this music video?'” she recalls. “And he was sitting on a chair next to me. And he was so excited about it and he likes the song, which is great, he's a fan of the song. He likes my music a lot, yes.”

Last week Carpenter appeared on The Tonight Show to perform their hit single “Espresso.” Carpenter performed with a live band and a group of backing singers, giving the performance a sultry vintage club vibe.
