When will the fifth season of Slow Horses be released?

We don't yet know exactly when the fifth season of Slow Horses will be releasedbut fans shouldn't have to wait too long.

The series has been remarkably efficient at releasing new seasons on a timely basis: Seasons 1 and 2 will air in 2022, Season 3 will arrive in November 2023, and Season 4 will hit screens in September 2024.

The series was officially renewed for the fifth season in January 2024 and has already been filmed. Given that, We're guessing it could release around summer 2025, a little less than a year after Season 4.

We will keep this page updated as we receive more concrete news.

What is Slow Horses Season 5 about?

The fifth season of Slow Horses is based on the fifth novel in Mick Herron's Slough House series, London Rules.

An official synopsis has already been released for the season, teasing: “In Season 5 of Slow Horses, everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across town, it's up to the Slow Horses to figure out how it all connects.

“After all, Jackson Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules should always apply.”

We also have the blurb to tie in with the book London Rules – although of course changes could have been made to it in the adaptation.

The blurb says: “At Regent's Park, the Secret Service headquarters, his new boss Claude Whelan learns the job the hard way.”

“He is tasked with protecting a beleaguered Prime Minister and he is facing attacks from all directions: from the flashy MP who orchestrated the Brexit vote and now has No 10 in his sights; printed by the protagonist’s wife, a tabloid columnist who crucifies Whelan.” and, above all, by his own deputy, Lady Di Taverner, who watches out for Claude's every stumble.

“Meanwhile, the country is rocked by a seemingly random series of terrorist attacks. Over at Slough House, the final stop for failed spies, the crew struggles with personal issues: repressed grief, various addictions, retail paralysis, and nagging suspicions that their newest colleague is a psychopath.

“But together, they are rediscovering their greatest strength – which makes a bad situation much, much worse.”

Who will star in Slow Horses season 5?

We expect most of the main cast from Slow Horses to be back, and we know we'll certainly see more of Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb, Kristin Scott Thomas' Diana Taverner, Jackson Lowden's River, among others Cartwright” and Rosalind Eleazar’s “Louisa Guy”.

There are some characters whose return is less certain. While Jonathan Pryce could certainly return as David Cartwright, the end of season four, which saw River place him in a retirement home, could well mark the end of his time on the series.

Meanwhile, it seems likely that Hugo Weaving's Frank Harkness could return, but whether he will be back for Season 5 remains to be seen.

Likewise, Joanna Scanlan could return as Moira Tregorian, but now that she's gotten her job back at the park and left Slough House, she could be a one-off character.

Finally, there's one character we most likely won't see more of: Kadiff Kirwan's Marcus Longridge, after he met his tragic end in the season four finale.
